Virginia STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition)

STAR Events logo

STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) are competitive events in which members are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation. STAR Events offer individual skill development and application of learning in Family and Consumer Sciences. Each STAR Event has been crosswalked to the competency lists for every course in Virginia's Family and Consumer Sciences program, as well as to the FACS national standards, Common Career Technical Core Career Ready Practices, Career Clusters, 21st Century Skills, and the FCCLA national programs.

To enter the national FCCLA STAR Events, Virginia members must first compete at the state level.  This competition is held immediately prior to the annual State Leadership & Recognition Conference, utilizing the same site as the conference. The national manual for STAR Events is found on your chapter's affiliation portal under the "Resources" tab. In addition to the national rules, Virginia participants must complete forms and review information specific to the state competition.  The Virginia STAR Events Manual is available by clicking on the button to the right.
